On Monday 20 May 2019, YAK Agency participated in the conference “The Olympics, not just a game. Milan and Cortina, candidates cities for the 2026 Olympic Winter Games”, organized by the Association PadovaLegge at the University of Padova.

The conference was introduced by the Rector of the University of Padova Rosario Rizzuto, by the alderman to Sport of the Municipality of Padova Diego Bonavina, and by the President of PadovaLegge Fabio Pinelli, and saw the participation of the CONI President Giovanni Malagò and of the President of the Cortina 2021 Foundation Alessandro Benetton.

Malagò’s speech, “the reasons to win”,  revolved around the status quo of the candidature of Milan and Cortina to host the 2026 Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games, where Italy faces competition of the Swedish capital Stockholm. The candidature develops in the frame of the IOC’s Agenda 2020, the manifesto of IOC President Thomas Bach for a sustainable future of the Olympic model.

“Sustainability” was indeed a keyword at the centre of the conference, in terms of both environmental and economical sustainability of the event, in opposition to “gigantic” Olympic editions seen in the recent past. The focus is now on the legacy - in terms of infrastructures and know-how - that such mega events leave behind after the Games, and how to take full advantage of such legacy in order to ensure the development of grassroots sport and communities.

The conference saw the participation of Professor Raffaele Cavalli (director of the department of agro-forestry systems of the University of Padua), Professor Guido Guerzoni (of the Bocconi University of Milan), and of Edo Ronchi (the former Minister for the Environment of current President of the “Sviluppo Sostenibile” foundation).
