YAK Agency among the supporters of the project for the construction of the new area dedicated to adolescent patients of the Pediatric Oncology and Hematology ward in Padua.
The “Teen Zone” was inaugurated on Monday the 16th of July. This project was carried out by Team for Children ONLUS - with the support of companies and private citizens - to meet the needs of the adolescents that are treated at the Pediatric Oncology and Hematology ward in Padua.
The agency by Marco Dalla Dea and Giovanni Cecolin, which has supported the NPO with integrated communication activities for a few years, has collaborated to the promotion of the project through press office and social media management and visual content production. In the months before the inauguration, YAK Agency followed the birth of the “Teen Zone” step by step, sharing the main stages of the project on the web channels of the association: from technical inspections for the beginning of the construction project to the painting of walls by Tony Gallo, street artist from Padua - who has dedicated his work “Fragile” to the kids -, from the press conference for the presentation to local journalists and newspapers to the opening ceremony with the cutting of the ribbon and hundreds of butterflies flying.
WHAT IS THE TEEN ZONE MEANT FOR
About 35% of the patients of the Pediatric Oncology and Hematology ward, managed by Prof. Giuseppe Basso, are 14 to 18 years old: at this age they have very different needs in comparison to younger patients. Working actively in the ward, the volunteers of Team for Children ONLUS have seen the discomfort of adolescent patients for having to share their spaces with younger children. “Spending a lot of time with these girls and boys we have understood their thoughts, their anxieties and fears - claims Chiara Girello Azzena, President of the association - We have seen girls and boys seeking refuge in a small room to have a little intimacy, other listening to music at full volume not to hear small children yelling while playing. This is normal: these guys are going through a delicate age, with specific needs. Girls and boys aged 14-18, in particular, have shown to have the strong need of interacting with their peers in a space especially conceived for them. For this reason we have dreamt, imagined and realized this pavilion for them only: the “Teen Zone”, a space dedicated to their study, relaxation and leisure”.

The “Teen Zone” is 400 m2 area fit for teenagers, with all types of comforts, divided in spaces with different objectives: leisure and relaxation on the ground floor, study on the first floor. The ground floor includes music and movie area, a space for leisure with PlayStation and games, a big fish tank, and a refreshment area, where boys and girls can stay together and have fun. The first floor is divided in 5 spaces addressed to doctors, a clinical research center, a meeting room that can be used also by girls and boys, a space meant for patients’ sessions with the psychologists, one for Professors and various medical practices.
